Longstanding Marbella real estate agent Ivar Dahl and his wife Anna were among a select group of guests invited to a private dinner with newly reinstated Marbella mayor, Ángeles Muñoz. During the event, which took place at the Hotel Los Monteros, the mayor took the opportunity to explain her plans for the reinvigoration of Marbella to the cream of the region’s property developers, agents, investors and other related professionals.
She lamented the fact that the standard of public services had slipped during the previous town hall administration, which she and her team are working to improving again, but above all emphasised the commitment to breaking the planning deadlock that has plagued Marbella for more than two years now. The long wait and uncertainty regarding the obtaining of planning permission for projects within the municipal boundaries of Marbella has caused much of the investment intended for it to move to the neighbouring municipalities of Benahavis, Estepona, Ojén and Mijas, where no such problems exist and the process is quick and straightforward.
Mayoress Ángeles Muñoz believes that the entire Costa del Sol can grow and benefit from the strong demand for both its tourism offer and the lifestyle sought by buyers of homes in this region. She believes that Marbella should no longer miss out on investment but rather retake its position as the focal point of quality development in this part of southern Spain. The mayor laid out her plans for achieving this, at the core of which is a concerted effort to streamline the procedures relating to the evaluation of new construction and renovation projects within the guidelines of the reinstated 1986 PGOU (municipal town planning guideline), with the aim of greatly simplifying and speeding up the process.
“This is the first priority of the new town hall administration. The mayor wants investors to once again have full confidence in Marbella and its bureaucratic institutions, and we have full confidence in her,” said Ivar Dahl. “She has proved herself very capable in the past, and we greatly appreciate the communicative and transparent nature of a town hall that is now focused on working with those in the property sector, not just to promote Marbella and its economy, but also to nurture this beautiful place.”
